I installed SQL Express with Advanced Tools on my machine yesterday evening so I could play around and learn SQL. But I can't get the d*mn thing to connect as a datasource in CF.

Using the SQL Server Configuration Manager, I've enabled both my local ip(127.0.0.1) and the other IP that was listed. I restarted the service and tried both in CF, with no luck.

If I use the local IP, I get the following error.
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect

If I use the other IP, it simply times out.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's simple.. but I'm stumped.

might need to specify a port in the CF Administrator.

check to see what port your SQL Server install is listening on and specify that in your datasource setup in the CF admin.

Ahhh yes that issue. Smile  I could make you suffer or give you the solution?? Instead of that I'll be nice. Read my second post (which should be the 4th one) on the following link and it should hopefully fix everything up for you:

You wouldn't make me suffer like that.. you know there's much more suffering to come when I start trying to make my code work on SQL server :P

Anyways, JJ, you're solution got me most of the way through it.. now I'm getting a login error. I set it to use the windows security protocols, so as far as I know, there's no username or password to input.

java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Could not establish a connection using integrated security: No LoginModules configured for JDBC_DRIVER_01
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Could not establish a connection using integrated security: No LoginModules configured for JDBC_DRIVER_01

Sounds to me like it wants a username and password. Problem is that the security is set at install, and I don't see a way to add a name or password to it.

Hmmm not sure what to do about that though because I set it up to use a login. I'm very much used to it from other SQL Server databases I've worked on so for working locally I've gotten in the habit of using the sa/sqladmin login. If you can set it up to use a login I'm positive it'll work as it did for me and many others. Let us know how you are doing. I'm sure someone will help you out though with a non-login approach soon.
