Although there have been problems with their service (up time, mail issues, etc) I really don't mind, mainly because things happen. So any of their packages are good. Just depends on what you are hosting, how much traffic you are expecting, what features you want, etc.

with any host, the various packages just allow for more/less disk space, features, etc.  none are any more "reliable" (i'm referring to the various packages on a shared server... moving to a dedicated 'package' would certainly be more reliable, if that's what you're asking).

back in june, i set up a site monitor to see how reliable hostingtoz is.

http://www.siteuptime.com/statistics.php?Id=54549&&UserId=69175

roughly 98% uptime (and fwiw, they've had issues with their colo last week that contributed significantly to the downtime... before that it was over 99%).

99% ain't great (it sounds great, but many SLAs guarantee you 99.9% uptime), but for what you'll pay ($35 a year gets you CFMX7 Enterprise), I think it's well worth it.

Of course, it depends on what you're looking to do.  I'm hosting a personal site that's not revenue generating, and if it goes down every so often, no great loss.  If you're looking to host a customer site, they might not be so understanding.  if you're looking to host a commercial site that will potentially lose money if it goes down, you might not be so understanding.

what i normally tell people is it's a great place to pay a small amount of money to get yourself a coldfusion "playground".

Must be getting close to 36hrs downtime (no kidding-wish I was though) on their "ChilledServer"...and counting...
Something about a RAID array failure.

:(

Can I just throw a subtle observation out there for everyone to consider.

Yes, hostingatoz has it's problems, I was with a host that cost even more and even with all the problems that hostingatoz has still has less than that other host. Could it be perception....probably. See I don't see $64 dollars a year compared to the $35 a month that much money, and I know unless I host my own site NO SITE will be perfect 24/7/365 days a year.

I am not sticking up for them, I think it is a little ridiculous to have sites down for 30+ hours. I also am a little perturbed with the fact that when it did come back up fr one reason or another it broke my fusebox based site. BUT I am saying why get mad at something you already know will indeed happen on any server. As the saying goes SH............happens, more often than not. At least in this case you are not spending a fortune while waiting for it to be shoveled.  Wink

It's a dangerous line to tread, when we begin suspending or diluting reasonable minimum service obligations because we paid less.
However, for the record, I'm past mad. The last run of frustrating email server issues many moons ago (which they did get sorted eventually and have been pretty good since) helped me re-calibrate my expectations and limit/qualify the recommendations about them I have made to others.
For the money, despite the problems, I'm stoked to have personal, play, and test sites with them. But I could not, in good conscience, suggest or re-sell them as a robust host for commercial sites. They really are fantastic value for money when you think about what you get for what you pay...if you don't have much to lose.

I do feel for any re-sellers of their service who have sold to commercial sites. They would be on a hiding for nothing to a certain extent, unless luck was with them.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm not mad but after a few years with this host, feel obligated to tell it like it is so others can make an informed decision.

**edit** actually, it's probably not a few years with them, I'm not completely sure. At least into the second year.
Also, I note the sites hosted on the "ChilledServer" are back up now. I do have some questions about RAID  but as they are not specific to this thread, I'll start another one.
**further edit** I spoke too soon. Site down again, message now "Service Unavailable".

My site has been up and down a few times this week. I would rather pay extra 10 bucks per year to get a stable hosting service. hostingatoz is very cheap but very unstable. Well, I guess I got what I paid for. I'm switching my hosting soon. Would not recommend this hostingatoz to anyone. The worst hosting I ever had.

Checking the timestamp of my reply above reveals it's been well over a week since the RAID failure.

I have a site I use on that chilled server for testing and general mucking around purposes. When they started getting the sites back up they asked people still having issues to let them know, which made me wonder what was specific to the failure they had that made it impossible to know what sites they actually host or unwilling to check that all the sites they had on that server were restored. I still don't know the answer to that, but I decided not to tell them about this test site to see if they are actually capable / willing to check for themselves, as might be a reasonable thing to do for any host in that situation.

Long story short...that server isn't serving that site's pages after more than a week since the failure. When I need to use that site, which will be soon, I will let them know it's still down.

Mental note...back-up my other sites myself, every day. Do not rely on this [**edit** or any] host to do so or have bullet-proof recovery strategies. Wink

How is hostingatoz now? Do the pages load quickly?

Has anyone tried having backup hosting when sites go down? I´m thinking have cheap hostingatoz hosting for sites which when and if they go down the other host kicks in, what do you think? TIA
