arguably (and I stress arguably, because I've heard different stories from people who all really know their stuff), cfscript is faster.

the other 'advantage' is really only for those who are familiar/more comfortable with a scripting syntax.  For them (those who might have come to CF from another language), it's the same familiarity that you feel with tags (to them, tags might seem more complicated).

Unless you want to take the time to write out some code in <cfscript> and cftags, and benchmark to see which is faster, I'd probably argue that you should stick to whichever you're comfortable with.

Used to be (pre-MX) that you needed <cfscript> to write UDFs (and you still can)...but with the advent of <cffunction>, you can get away without <cfscript>

if you'd like to take a look at some cfscript in action, i threw together a calendar once in 100% cfscript just to try it Smile

all CF functions work in cfscript.  the 'drawback' is that no CF tags do.

this is why <cffunction> (introduced in MX) appeals to many.  They can now create UDFs and use CF tags as well.
