!!!Officially Off Topic!!!
--------------------------

What's the point of the DB Help section of this forum if every man and his dog clutters the coding help section with DB related threads?

Furthermore, point two of the Forum Guidelines, clearly suggests searching for solutions before posting questions. Just how accurate is a search of the DB help section going to be if only 10% of DB related threads are contained therein?

So, here's a call to arms for all similarly anally rententive easycfmers to go on strike and never answer any DB questions posted anywhere other than the DB help section. Unless it is to suggest the original poster re-thinks the location of their post.

Have your say below, and vote for posting anarchy or for highly strung forum dwellers like myself to back off... Wink

I love the sneaky ones that post the same question in multiple threads and categories, but make sure the Title is different in each.

I'm training my army of human flesh eating, martial arts expertly trained ferrets as we speak so that I can soon hopefully let them wipe those sneak rat fink.... well you get my drift.

Your not anal if so I am the lord of anal wannabes. No really I am on the verge of being Monk with everything in its place and heaven forbid you move a dust ball without telling me first. So asking that post being put where they should be isn't anal its more Ms Manners.  Smile

@kicker

I have to admit, I'm guilty of that posting same post but with different subjects only because I'm not sure if the issue was with the sql statement or the cfm code.  Smile

Cheers,
Chip

I should note my disdain for DB clutter in the coding help section is limited solely to those posts of a purely  DB related matter, not those containing, in part, a DB aspect to the issue.

It is unrealistic to consider coding issues exists in a vacuum and are never influenced by DB issues, so I should have made that point clearer before ranting.

It's just those posts that are purely DB related, the proliferation of which in the coding help section seems to be growing by the day, diluting (my at least) interpretation of the original intent of such a section, cluttering it without justification, and rendering search results of the DB section significantly less effective.

@dlackey - I had some others in mind, but I will add you to my list of profiles the ferrets are to hunt out if you would like.  Wink

@lossed spoken like a true diplomat. I however am not one nor aspire to be, but you are right there are gray lines. Yet there should be some i.d.-ten-tee error handler for the ones that clearly fall to one end or the other. Just because someone is using <cfquery> doesn't automatically make it a coding question.

PS shouldn't this thread be in general discussion.  Wink

This I Dee Ten Tee clicked the new discussion link instead of the new poll link when posting his rant, only realising the error of his ways when trying to find how to add the poll questions to his post.

It wasn't premeditated idiocy or a flagrant one finger salute to the forum categories, your honour.
Besides, having realised this error and starting a new poll in this category in the absence of a way to delete this thread or edit it into a poll, do you really want me to duplicate this drivel into a new thread in the general section?

There is only so much ranting a sane user can handle and I fear multiple copies of this rant will serve no useful purpose and will drive users away.

But if is the will of the people... Wink

@Megan,

Yes. Even more reason to please grant us one last (even if futile) attempt at preserving a small fragment of our simple lives pre-dependents. One where getting something off our chests without due regard for it's efficacy or psychology, reverse or otherwise, was the normal knee jerk reaction.

Besides, don't you know that within every adult male is a belligerent adolescent wondering what the hell happened?

Fortunately I have none. Don't get me wrong I like kids, I don't mind baby sitting on occasion. I just think I have to many character flaws to raise a child without someone my complete opposite. (that would look something like a flower power/free love lets talk about our emotions type of person.) In which case the kid would reach 4 before I drowned its mother in the bath.  Evil Grin

I am going to throw in my two cents on the matter... hopefully together we'll come up with a dollar.

Expecting people to be able to recognize where to post in ALL cases is somewhat unrealistic. Many things cross the line and for someone that is trying to learn or overcome something (9 times out of 10) where to post instead of getting help is uninportant.

Now don't get me wrong; I am all about keeping things tidy and neat.. As disorganized as I am; I know wher everything is (call me strange)... but seriously...

I would think that we moderators (or senior folks) should be able to move something if needbe to ensure that if someone needs it later it's where it needs to be.

Remember that this is a community; and though we should always be thinking of everyone who lives here... that is sometimes hard... We all get caught up in code, in something that is making your hair fall out or just in finsing a solution to move on to the next headache Wink

So with that; I ask this question... do we need more moderators to help categorize and ensure that content is accurate, in it's place and mot of all effective?

If we do; then let me know and I'll set those who live here with moderator accounts and you can help make this community even better then it already is!
