We just got Macromedia Studio 8. Currently I use FP to build my website. I would like to move to Dreamweaver. Now I would like to build database connected pages. The Studio has ColdFusion and I want to start using this. I have programming background though it has been a while that I have programmed other then writing small scripts for the webpage. Anyway, my question is how to get started with the software. Does it need to be installed on the server? Or for development purpose can I install it locally? Do I have to install PWS on my machine(Win XP Prof).I did install ColdFusion on win 2003 server which has IIS. However we don't host our website.
Thanks, Nita.

Hi Nita and welcome to the site.

You can install CF on top of (Windows XP Professional - IIS) or Apache (apache.org). IIS is easier to deply IMO.

You can also; install the stand-alone (with built in web server) version of ColdFusion MX. Basically you would not need IIS or Apache; it instead uses a built in web server built right into ColdFusion. You can then access your pages on your browser by going to:

http://localhost:8500/

Let me know if you need anythign else; and welcome to EasyCFM.

Thanks Pablo. I did install it locally, din't want to mess up the working server. I will have lot of questions down the road, but for now I am ok(as I have not started to implement it yet.)

i feel like a publicist for the guide, but check out the following guide:

http://www.acidlabs.org/extras/acme

I started using this setup a couple of weeks ago and cannot believe how i worked before without it. Not everyone may feel the same as I did, but i bet a lot would or do. Anyway, I want to share and help and that is the only reason i recommend it!

Good luck with your new career!

Thanks
