Topic: A Sharing Violation

louissto56    -- 05-03-2007 @ 9:08 AM

Looks like I'm the first poster. What an honour.

Anyways, in Dreamweaver 8 I am getting the error: A sharing violation has occured while accessing [file name] when I try to save it.

It only just happened now. Its been fine for months till now.

I tried it with other files but it's only the one file which is a scheduled task file. What might be wrong is I opened the file to see what it did instead of waiting for the schedule to run it. Do you think that may have caused it?

I don't have it or anything open but dreamweaver.

ist he file local or remote?

if remote; make sure that your remote settings have the username/password defined... Windows came out with a patch that clears out memory settings in applications such as Dreamweaver... so I have founf myself having to define it on the fly everytime i start a session...

let me know if that isnt it and we'll go from there!

Thanks for your suggestions pablo. You are going to laugh at this but it was IE's fault once again. When I viewed the page, for some reason it came up with a download box of that page. But it was hidden so I only found it when I minimized Dreamweaver. So I canceled that and it worked perfectly.

Let that be a lesson to you all.... DONT TRUST IE!!

I think it's also a glitch.  Alot of times when I am working in local mode and hit f-12 it causes that when I make changes.

Hi, I'm still having a sharing violation error message juz like :A sharing violation has occured while accessing [file name]*)
Sumtimes it is followed by:The file associated with this document has been moved or deleted outside of Dreamweaver. You may want to save the document before continuing.

Can it be caused by a collision in some tables in mySQL?
'coz I think the error message only shows up when I add  a specific table relations.

*)Files that shows in the error messages:

Are you sure you have permissions to edit the file? I was having the same issue as you when our samba server decided it didn't want to work that day.

I get this locally, often when tweaking a local css file and previewing the page. If I refresh the page I'm previewing before heading back to DW, I've less chance of throwing my lappy off the nearest tall building in frustration at that *&@$ing sharing violation alert.

When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail Smile

to jarottman: Yeap, I have permissions 2 edit my files. Well, it didn't show any unpleasant alert today, Hehehe.... I dunno 'bout tomorrow. Sumtimes the issue shows up, and sumtimes it doesn't.

to Lossed: Smile   khehehe ...annoying sharing violation alert!

It's been 2 weeks after my last post, I've never seen the annoying sharing violation message anymore.

My guess is... the error occured when I was working on 2 applications in 2 different locations at the same time, 1 is on a server and the other 1 is on my localhost.

hehehe.... if my guess is right then Jarrotman's question is answered. (Are you sure you have permissions to edit the file? ....)  Blush  Blush
